New camping trip opportunity! PDF Print E-mail

PLC Members & Troop:

Mr. Descant called me this morning with a camping opportunity/invitation from Mr. Mike Weiss from Hank Jones Scout Reservation.  They and several local Troops have an organized activity scheduled for the weekend of Nov 6-8.  From what we've gathered so far, one or two troops recently backed out, creating an opening for a "Capture the Flag" weekend and they have asked if our Troop is interested in taking the opening.  They have also asked several other Troops and this is first come-first serve.  The cost is $40 per person and includes meals.  This event includes about 100 people and from what we've gathered - the game is very well organized.

First, I need the PLC Members to decide if this activity is to be considered.  Chris B - can you please call the PLC Members tonight to see if there is an interest in moving forward.  If your schedule is too tight -Nick B. or Matt H. could you please make the calls & get back to me - thanks Scouts!!  One thing to consider is that this trip would likely eliminate the Pennypack Day Hike that I believe was planned for the same weekend.  We can obviously reschedule the hike.

If PLC wants to move ahead with this activity - then we'll need commitments from Scouts & parents ASAP (during tomorrow night's Patrol Meeting) - which is why I've included everyone on this email.  If PLC decides to move ahead with this activity, then hopefully everyone else can be prepared to commit to a head count tomorrow night.  Please check your schedules prior to tomorrow's Troop Meeting.  We need to respond to Mr. Weiss ASAP to ensure our spot.

All - This seems like a great opportunity to interact with other local Troops.  Sorry if this seems "rushed" - we can always respectfully decline.

Finally, sorry about multiple emails this week - lots of information to share & I' m getting it in pieces.

Troop Website Update

Calendar

I've repaired the calendar and document links on the website.  There should not be any problems accessing the files.

Pictures

The service that we use changed how the pictures are stored.  I am still working on restoring picture access.  The pictures are not lost, just not available through the website at this time.

Help reporting issues

Please let me know if you are having issues with the website.  I will be putting more information on the site as I receive it.  For example, the training material was provided to me for leaders.  I will be adding this material to the site this weekend.

Thanks for your patience and help.

Mr. Barber

All,

Please read through carefully!

Several reminders & updates regarding the coming weeks:

Thursday 7/9/09 - 7:00PM - normal Troop meeting. Headcount may be low as many families are away or have other commitments (Mr. Calderwood, Mr. Gaston, & our SPL - Matt H., etc.)  We (Scouts & leaders) will be reviewing the status of Summer Camp MB prerequisites.  Everyone should be nearing completion.  If you need letters for counselors - I would expect all requests THIS WEEK.  Scouts need to return tents, tarps, chef kits, etc from last two trips (Archery & Rowland Family Camp).  Many items are are missing so check your garages & sheds.  I have lists for both trips & I will be following up on this.  Scouts that reviewed First Aid with Chris B. during previous trip can be tested & signed off.  Please come prepared (that means bring your books & brains).

Thursday 7/13/09 -  Mandatory Summer Camp Meeting for Scouts & Adults (especially 1st year attendees).  I apologize for the change, however my schedule changed & I am not available & will not be at the Thursday 7/23/09 Troop Meeting.  Final review of prerequisites & last chance for letters.

Monday 7/20/09 - Parent Meeting - Highly recommend attendance from all Parents with Scouts attending Summer Camp.  We will discuss Summer Camp rules (i.e., no cell phones, etc.).  We also need to discuss annual Troop dues, as Council has increased costs.  We need to establish plans for Sept. Rifle trip, Descant Picnic, & return to Scouting date (9/3 or 9/10).  For the Rifle Trip - i need to get invites sent to Cub Scout Packs for Webelos II's.

Thursday 7/23/09 - Troop Meeting - Mr. Gaston & Mr. Woywod will not be present - need Leaders - please let me know if you are available.  This is final meeting prior to Summer Camp.  Last minute details for Summer Camp to be addressed.

Sunday 7/26/09 - Leave for Summer Camp - more info on time to follow (assume 9:30AM-10:00AM - ish).  Scouts will need a packed lunch.

Misc:

Headcount/money for any/all parents & siblings wishing to attend Summer Camp Family BBQon Sunday 7/26 is due this week (2 weeks prior).  Please let me know so that we can purchase tickets.

Please respond to our Eagle Scouts requests regarding availability to assist with Eagle Projects.  This includes Jacob S. at Deer Park (8/14-8/16)  We need headcount ASAP - please.  Jacob is planning this trip & your prompt responses would be welcome.  There will be no fee associated with this trip, as Jacob has factored that into the cost of his project.

Please keep an eye on your inboxes for information from Bobby R. regarding his Eagle Project.

Scouts - please continue to work on prerequisites - there is no reason to return from Summer Camp with a partial MB.

NEW ITEM:  Please provide a copy of Scout's medical insurance card for Summer Camp.  Place copy in envelope with Scout's name clearly labeled & turn into Mrs. Biehl or myself.

Thank you all for staying informed!!!

All,

What a great time last night!  Thanks to all who participated, bought or brought food & drink, cooked, cleaned, entertained, etc.  Thank you Chris B. for the idea and heading up the activities for the evening.

NO MEETING ON JULY 2, 2009 (Beth Hoagland's idea).  Seriously, Friday is a holiday and many families will be traveling - enjoy the time with family and we'll see everyone on Thursday July 9th.

Summer Camp Merit Badge prerequisite work - everyone should be busy, busy, busy!!  Summer Camp is only four weeks away and we have three meetings prior to departure.  Thursday July 23rd is a Mandatory Summer Camp Meeting for all Scouts attending Summer Camp - Parent(s) will need to attend also.  If you are not able to make the July 23 Meeting - let me know ASAP, so we can make other arrangements for sharing information.

See you in two weeks!
